An easy 20-minute drive from both Perth CBD and the popular town of Fremantle, Cottesloe Beach is one of the most spectacular parts of Perth and a perfect destination for a relaxed beachside getaway. With pure white sand and turquoise water, it is the perfect place for chilling out or getting active with your family and friends. Home to some of Perth’s best cafes, restaurants and bars as well as great snorkelling, swimming and sun-baking spots, Cottesloe is continually voted amongst the best beaches in the world for locals and tourists to spend their time off. At Executive Escapes, we have a huge portfolio of short term Cottesloe Beach accommodation options. If you are looking to explore this little piece of paradise, here’s our guide to help you live like a local while you visit ‘Cott’.
Get the Best Coffee in Town
There’s no better way to start your day than with a caffeine hit and Cottesloe has no shortage of great cafes with even better coffee. Our favourites include Little Sup Café, the Blue Duck and Barchetta – all walking distance to each other! Once you grab your latte, walk a short distance along the foreshore to take in a great view or if you have the kids in tow, check out the playground overlooking the ocean in front of Beaches Café. This play space is divided into a toddler area and section for the older kids so there’s fun for all ages.
Wine and Dine
Your taste buds can choose from a fantastic selection of restaurants around Cottesloe. Our favourites are: Canteen Pizza, Il Lido, Cott’s Takeaway, Lemongrass Thai Restaurant, Samson’s Paddock, Tsunami Restaurant, Thach’s Quan Vietnamese Restaurant (TQR), Itsara, Pata Negra, Cott & Co. Fish bar, Ocean Spice Café and 2 Fat Indians.
The Cottesloe foreshore has an amazing pathway with endless ocean views so grab your scooter or bike and ride along! If you’re feeling really energetic, you can continue cycling the 25 kilometres from Cottesloe to Hillary’s in the north. You can hire stand-up paddle boards and bikes along Cottesloe beach.
See Sculpture by the Sea
The annual Sculpture by The Sea event is on March 6 – 23 this year. This amazing outdoor sculpture exhibition is hugely popular with locals and tourists alike, so get there early to beat the crowds. Established in 1997 at Bondi Beach, Sculpture by the Sea was later shifted to Cottesloe Beach and gets bigger and better each year. Positioned along Cottesloe Beach itself, there are displays lined up from the sea wall, all the way to the sand, extending towards the North Cottesloe side. It’s easy to spend at least a couple of hours wandering around, looking at the unique sculptures across the beach.
Soak in the View
It goes without saying that swimming is one of the best things to do at Cottesloe Beach, however, make sure you make the time to walk out on to the rocky pier after your dip in the ocean. You will get the most breathtaking views back to Cottesloe Beach and the famous Art Deco Indiana Restaurant. You can also take a long stroll on the paved path from Swanbourne which stretches up to the Leighton Beach. This will give you stunning panoramic views of the beach that will compliment your walk.
Experience a Cottesloe Sunday Session
Popular with the locals and an event you must experience at least once, is the Cottesloe Sunday Session. Spend an afternoon with friends and family and a few drinks at either at the Cottesloe Beach Hotel or the Ocean Beach Hotel, both of which are located on Marine Parade. Sunday Sessions start early and go on till about 10pm, but if you want to keep the party going after this time, head to The Avenue at Club Bay View in Claremont which spins some fantastic rock music on Sunday nights.
